  • Show Up Campaign launch breaking down barriers to screening 10 October 2025 Show Up campaign launch breaks down screening barriers This month, as part ofBreast Cancer Awareness Month, we launched a powerful campaign that speaks directly to thebarriersmany women face when it comes to screening— fear of pain, lack of time, and misconceptions around family history. This campaign is told through the experience of three brave women. The message to WA women is simple: Show Up! Show up for yourselves, Show up for those who love you. Show up and put your health first. We have a dedicated campaign landing pagewhere women are encouraged to get the facts of breast health. It includes an FAQ and a ‘what to expect’ overview during a mammogram. These messages are brought to life through the stories of three women: Jodie Joyce, a member of our Consumer Reference Group, who addresses the fear of discomfort and encourages others to push past it. Leanne P...

  • Doctor talking to patient in an office
Why is BreastScreen WA asking women about their COVID vaccination? 21 March 2021 As you are no doubt aware the Commonwealth Government has committed to a nationwide COVID-19 vaccination program to be completed by the end of 2021. There is no evidence that the COVID-19 disease or COVID-19 vaccination has any adverse effect on the breast tissue. Some recently published medical studies have reported a small incidence of mild lymph gland swelling in the armpit on the side of the inoculation for up to 6 weeks after the vaccination. BreastScreen WA is not recommending that women delay or reschedule their screening appointments. BreastScreen WA is asking women questions about the date, arm and brand of COVID-19 inoculation, so the consultant radiologist has this information when they interpret the mammogram images. If you have any queries about this matter, please contact BreastScreen WA on email breastscreenwa@health.wa.gov.au
