Health Promotion in the Practice Winner

Medical practices promote breast screening for Breast Cancer Awareness month in October
For 23 years, BreastScreen WA has held a Health Promotion in the Practice competition, encouraging medical practices to promote the importance of breast screening and breast awareness with their patients and local community. This is achieved through creative initiatives within the practice, including decorating in an array of pink. It is an opportunity for GPs and staff to “be in the pink” for breast cancer, which affects 1 in 7 women in Australia and causes 3000 deaths annually.
Judges were looking for innovation and creativity, good use of BSWA resources, a strong message about screening, and levels of effort.
Congratulations to Canning Medical Centre Fremantle, who not only created informative and eye-catching visual displays within their clinic but also engaged patients with an interactive display, encouraging them to share experiences of loved ones who had been 'touched' by breast cancer. This activity opened the discussion around breast cancer services such as BreastScreen WA.
Well done to all involved, and to Seville Grove Medical Centre which came in a close 2nd place.
